The fourth Annual Scientific Conference, AquaNet IV, took place on October 19-22, 2004 at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, 1 rue des Carrieres, Québec City, Québec, G1R 4P5.
This year, AquaNet was collaborating with the Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC) and held some joint events with Aquaculture Canada 2004, the AAC’s 21st Annual Meeting. Following the joint events, AquaNet held its scientific program based on its research program.
About 125 researchers, and members from industry, government and non-government organisations with an interest in aquaculture attended the annual scientific conference.

AquaNet III
The Third Annual Science Conference of AquaNet, AquaNet III, was held October 25-28, 2003 at The Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre in downtown Vancouver, BC.
About 200 researchers, and members from industry, government and non-government organisations with an interest in aquaculture attended the annual scientific conference.
The conference was well received and met the delegates' expectations. Participants appreciated the opportunity to network with other researchers and learn about the research AquaNet has been supporting. Students in particular appreciated the opportunity to present their research.

AquaNet II
The second research conference and
annual general meeting of AquaNet was held September 14 to 17, 2002 at
the Delta Beauséjour in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Dr. Barry A.
Costa-Pierce, Director of the Rhode Island Sea Grant College Program
and Professor of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Department of Fisheries,
Animal, and Veterinary Science at the University of Rhode Island, was
the 2002 AquaNet Distinguished Lecturer. During his talk, Ecological
Aquaculture: The Evolution of the Blue Revolution, Dr.
Costa-Pierce discussed the need for aquaculture to evolve quickly and
adopt an alternative model of the enterprise called "ecological
aquaculture", bringing not only the technical aspects of
ecological principles and ecosystems thinking to aquaculture, but
incorporating at the outset the wisdom of ecology, increased planning
for community development, and concerns for the wider social,
economic, and environmental contexts of aquaculture.
Eighty-five graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research
assistants took the opportunity to display posters outlining their
research projects. Theme awards were presented, along with Industrial
Partnership awards, for posters of research projects that demonstrated
timely, relevant gains to the aquaculture industry.

AquaNet I
The inaugural research conference and
annual general meeting of AquaNet, took place September 29 to October
2, 2001 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and brought together 240 Canadian and
international delegates from the aquaculture community.
The theme for AquaNet I was Vision for the Future. This
conference was the first time that the majority of the 218 research
participants from the 39 research projects representing the three
AquaNet research themes of Animal Production, Environmental
Integrity and Social and Economic Aspects gathered
together.
A total of 17 invited speakers made presentations to delegates
representing a variety of sectors including the natural, applied and
social sciences, the aquaculture industry, First Nations, provincial
and federal governments, environmental and other agencies. Individuals
from across Canada (St. John's to Victoria) as well as from the United
States, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Chile, France and The Faeroes
attended. Two of the speakers included Dr. James Tidwell, President of
the World Aquaculture Society, who gave the inaugural lecture of the AquaNet
Distinguished Lectureship Series and Mr. Bob McDonald, host of
CBC's Quirks and Quarks, who was invited to speak during the
Education Symposium.
Seventy-one graduate students and post-doctoral fellows took the
opportunity to display posters outlining their research projects.
Awards were presented to recognize the outstanding poster
presentations.
In addition to the oral and poster
presentations, and theme discussions, there were several social
events, including an opening reception, a poster-judging social and a
closing banquet featuring the presentation of poster awards and an
entertaining photographic summary of the conference presented by
AquaNet's Scientific Director, Dr. William Driedzic.
