AquaNet is a Network of Centres of Excellence in aquaculture

RESEARCH - Overview

AquaNet, Canada's research network in aquaculture, is one of Canada's Networks of Centres of Excellence. It reflects a unique model of partnerships among universities, industry, government and non-governmental organisations to connect excellent research with sector know-how and strategic investment.

Research Goal

To advance interdisciplinary high quality research that addresses sector needs and concerns through integrated research in priority areas.

An integrated Research Framework guides AquaNet's research program. It is based on the logical steps involved in the planning, production and delivery of cultured aquatic products and the three thematic areas:

  • Animal Production
  • Environmental Integrity
  • Humanities and Social Sciences (formerly Social and Economic Aspects)

To reflect the broader scope of disciplines involved in AquaNet research, the Social and Economic Aspects theme has been renamed Humanities and Social Sciences.

Since its inception in 1999, AquaNet has invested on average $3.6 million per year on research and research support. This has been leveraged with cash and in-kind contributions from network partners.
